Unity Terrain

I built the terrain below using Unity and Photoshop. It is a accurate model of the land using height maps and the new Terrauin Builder Tool in UniUnity

First we need to install TERRAIN TOOLS

Im using Unity -v 2021.1

Open Package manager under Window/Package manager
Open the Plus icon dropdown to the Add package by name and type in com.unity.terrain-tools
You should now see the Terrain Tools added, soon as its loaded.
I also recomend adding the asset samples provided on the button link
Click import

Sweet lets play!

Create new terrain

Right click select 3d object/Terrain Boom

Click on Window/Terrain/Terrain Toolbox

this toolbox provides more customisability when you initially create the terrain.
Pick your sizes and puck the create button.

Get a terrain heightmap

must be a square image!!!
Edit in Photoshop to match the required image measurements size etc.

Upload heightmap to Unity

If all goes well and you followed the correct measurements. This might take a while (i got stuck on this for days because i wasnt making my image square, you’ve been warned)

Unity VR movement

Transform.Translate()

Lets say we are walking around our world.

Declaration

Moves the transform by x along the x axis, y along the y axis, and z along the z axis.

public void Translate(float x, float y, float z, Space relativeTo = Space.Self);

If relativeTo is left out or set to Space.Self the movement is applied relative to the transform’s local axes. (the x, y and z axes shown when selecting the object inside the Scene View.) If relativeTo is Space.World the movement is applied relative to the world coordinate system.

for example if we are moving in VR land by holding our joysticks and moving them up and down, simulating running movement and we only change the value on the z axis with no forth arg aka relativeTo. we would be moving forward aka along the z axis, not relative to the space (this works, but we might want more control)
